They assume electricity prices rise 5% a year, below the average yearly rise since 2014, with export payments flat and the panels’ output falling 0.5% a year; a battery’s savings are counted for its 10-year warranty only. *UK installer quotes for systems of these sizes usually range £4,000–£7,000 for the solar-only example and £10,000–£14,000 for the solar + battery example, depending on the kit and manufacturer you choose. Your installer confirms your exact price after a survey.

Is it really free?

Yes. It’s free to you: installers pay us a fee when a job goes ahead, and it’s never added to your price.

What’s the catch?

There is a commercial relationship, and we would rather you knew it up front: if you choose an installer through us and the job goes ahead, they pay us a fee. So it’s in our interest that you’re happy with the installer and the price. If the numbers don’t work for your home, your result will say so.

Will I get sales calls?

We’ll call you to check your details and talk through your options. Only the installer pricing your job gets your details, and they’ll contact you about your price. Nobody else will.

How accurate is the estimate?

We measure your roof from aerial imagery and work out how much of the electricity you’d use yourself with MGD 003, the MCS method installers must use. It’s an average for homes like yours, not a guarantee. Your installer confirms the final figures after a survey.

What if I don’t know my electricity use?

Choose “I don’t know” and we’ll use the UK average, and say so on your result. Your bill or supplier app will have your annual kWh if you want a closer figure.

I rent. Can I still get solar?

You’ll need your landlord’s agreement. You can still see what it would save.

Is there VAT on solar panels and batteries?

Installing solar panels and home batteries in your home is 0% VAT until 31 March 2027. After that it’s 5%, under current rules.

What does MCS mean?

The certification installers need for you to be paid for the electricity you export. We only work with MCS-certified installers.

Do I need planning permission?

Most homes don’t. Listed buildings and conservation areas can. Your installer will check.
